Chiricahua, AZ, Proclamation No. 1692, 43 Stat. 1946 (April 18, 1924)

Area reserved: “W ½ Sections 19, 30 and 31, Township 16 South, Range 30 East, G. & S. R. M.; Sections 24, 25 and 36, Township 16 South, Range 29 ½ East, G. & S. R. M.; S ½ Section 24, unsurveyed; Section 35, unsurveyed; Section 36, unsurveyed; Township 16 South, Range 29 East, G. & S. R. M.”

Craters of the Moon, ID, Proclamation No. 1694, 43 Stat. 1947 (May 2, 1924)

Area reserved: “Embracing Approximately 39 Square Miles” (from diagram). 39 square miles is 24,960 acres.

Statue of Liberty, NY, Proclamation No. 1713, 43 Stat. 1968 (October 15, 1924)

Area reserved: “about two and one-half acres.”

Also referred to as “Fort Wood” and “Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World.”

Area reserved: “three and one-half acres.”

Glacier Bay, AK, Proclamation No. 1733, 43 Stat. 1988 (February 26, 1925)

Area reserved: “approximately 1,820 square miles.” 1,820 square miles is 1,164,800 acres.

Coolidge was the second president (and the first Republican president) to proclaim a national monument reserving more than one million acres under the authority of the Antiquities Act.

Lava Beds, CA, Proclamation No. 1755, 44 Stat. 2591 (November 21, 1925)

Area reserved: “all tracts of land owned by the United States in the State of California lying within the area described” with boundaries listed using the township and range system.

(NPS Antiquities Act Centennial lists the Lava Beds “Acres Affected” as “45,589.92.”)
