National Monuments Modified by Calvin Coolidge via the Antiquities Act:

August 2, 1923, to March 3, 1929

 

Pinnacles, CA, Proclamation No. 1704, 43 Stat. 1961 (July 2, 1924)

Added lands near the existing monument, thus enlarging the monument to an area “Embracing 2,980.26 Acres” (from diagram).

 

Meriwether Lewis, TN, Proclamation No. 1825, 45 Stat. 2935 (December 6, 1927)

Added two tracts, one of “150 acres” and one of “100 acres,” and proclaimed “that said lands hereinbefore described are hereby reserved from appropriation and use of all kinds under the public land laws and set aside as an addition to the Meriwether Lewis National Monument.”

(NPS Antiquities Act Centennial lists the Meriwether Lewis “Acres Affected” as “100.”)

 

Chaco Canyon, NM, Proclamation No. 1826, 45 Stat. 2937 (January 10, 1928)

Extended the boundaries to an area “Embracing 21,509.40 Acres.”

 

Aztec Ruin, NM, Proclamation No. 1840, 45 Stat. 2954 (July 2, 1928)

Added “12.6 acres more or less.”

Changed name to “Aztec Ruins National Monument.”

 

Craters of the Moon, ID, Proclamation No. 1843, 45 Stat. 2959 (July 23, 1928)

Expanded the existing monument to an area “Embracing 80 Square Miles (more or less)” (from diagram).

(NPS Antiquities Act Centennial lists the Craters of the Moon “Acres Affected” as “26,240” which appears to describe the acres added.)

 

Mount Olympus, WA, Proclamation No. 1862, 45 Stat. 2984 (January 7, 1929)

Reduced area: “Section 4, Township 28 North, Range 7” eliminated from the monument.

(NPS Antiquities Act Centennial lists the Mount Olympus “Acres Affected” as “640.”)
