Monuments Modified March 4, 1921, to August 2, 1923

National Monuments Modified by Warren G. Harding via the Antiquities Act:

March 4, 1921, to August 2, 1923

(Harding passed away while in office; Coolidge was his VP)

Muir Woods, CA, Proclamation No. 1608, 42 Stat. 2249 (September 22, 1921)

Added lands near the existing monument, thus enlarging the monument to an area “Embracing 426.43 Acres” (from diagram), which included the original monument area of 295 acres.

(NPS Antiquities Act Centennial lists the Muir Woods “Acres Affected” as “128.14,” which, when combined with Theodore Roosevelt’s 295 acres, results in a total area reserved of 423.14.)

Pinnacles, CA, Proclamation No. 1660, 43 Stat. 1911 (May 7, 1923)

Added lands near the existing monument, thus enlarging the monument to an area “Embracing 2,653.46 Acres” (from diagram).
